Slightly off topic but it has occurred to me over the years that part of the success of Trump and Johnson can be traced back to the strange circumlocutions of politicians trying to avoid lying. When politicians lie shamelessly they ironically sound more honest than those who are sound artifical whilst trying to dodge questions.
